Thank you for your brilliant piece on that brilliant and incredibly good-looking new writer, Steve Elliott, who has taken the nation by storm with his brilliant novel Jones Inn [March 26]. (I think his last name is spelled with two t's.)
I'm pretty sure he first left home when he was 14, not 13, but then he was probably doing so much dope and alcohol at the time that he didn't know what century it was.
I was shocked, shocked to read that his father handcuffed him to a pipe for 30 minutes while trying to figure out what to do with him after his mother died. Such a dad should be horsewhipped! And ridden out of town on a rail! Even if he is incredibly good-looking!
But of course the worst of it was that Steve had to suffer a crew cut during his most sensitive, malleable years. Little wonder that he rebelled!
Sic semper tyrannis!
Cara Jepsen replies:
Unfortunately for Steve Elliott, his publisher spelled his name wrong on the jacket of his book, and therefore we did too.
