Tammy: A Coming of Age Story About a Girl Who Is Part T-Rex Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Wednesdays-Saturdays. Continues through April 7 2012

Julia Weiss's smart, goofy new comedy never really explains why eighth grader Tammy Rex is half dinosaur. But feeling like a monstrosity is pretty much par for the course in middle school, and to her classmates she's just another oddball to bully. Weiss satirizes the vicious dynamics of tween life with killer instincts and a precise ear. Alex Young is instantly likable and irrepressibly cute as Tammy, and the supporting cast do justice to a slate of memorable characters. Though the show features a slew of 90s pop songs and more than a few Angel Kitty pencils, Anneliese Toft's comically highbrow staging keeps it from devolving into a nostalgia fest for twentysomethings. —Keith Griffith
