Tara Jane O'Neil, Zelienople, Relaxation Record Soundboard

When: Sun., Aug. 24, 9 p.m. 2008

A veteran of Rodan, Retsin, and the Sonora Pine, singer-songwriter Tara Jane O’Neil has pursued solo projects for most of the aughts, collaborating with the likes of Papa M and Ida. Although sometimes frustrating for its lack of forward motion, her shimmering, multilayered music spills out into other dimensions: O’Neil is a visual artist who demonstrates a synesthetic sense in her drawings and paintings, where she’s been focusing much of her energy in recent years. Last fall she released the art book Wings. Strings. Meridians. A Blighted Bestiary (Yeti), comprising her allusive and creepy but oddly tranquil images of animals, packaged with a CD of live music, demos, and oddities. An instrumental record is reportedly in the works for Digitalis. —Monica Kendrick
