This handsome room provides a cozy, comfortable setting for chef Marcelo Mendoncas contemporary Italian cuisine. Appetizers include updated classics like grilled polenta with sausage and grape chutney, fritto misto (cakes of shrimp, polenta, zucchini, and risotto), grilled and fried calamari, and carpaccio of sirloin served with arugula, capers, red onions, and olives. Most of the entrees are pasta dishes -- rigatoni tossed with cremini mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, and prosciutto in a light cream sauce; fluffy gnocchi bathed in tomato sauce and topped with aged ricotta -- but theres also a daily risotto and heartier offerings such as veal medallions wrapped in prosciutto and served with whipped potatoes. Service is accommodating; they even shake martinis tableside.
