Ten Unknowns The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through May 29 2010

Jon Robin Baitz's 2001 drama centers on an old American painter who hightailed it to Mexico in the early 1960s, choosing obscurity over the cruel vicissitudes of the New York art scene. His visitors include a technically skilled but imaginatively barren young art-school grad, a venal art dealer, and a wide-eyed biologist from Berkeley who's in town to study frogs. These three facilitate discussions of the themes that every play about the art world must, by law, cover: authenticity, commercialism, and idealism. Director Scott Pasko gives the serviceable script a serviceable production for Will Act for Food; his cast manage to capture the characters' disaffection in the early going, but fail to convey any mounting sense of urgency. --Zac Thompson

Price: $10-$20 ($15 with donation of three or more nonperishable food items)
