Cherry Angostura's piece in the 12/21 Reader Year in Review covering the vapid Richard Roeper read like a punchless cocktail drink. I realize it's very difficult to write anything interesting about someone who is so boring and full of himself as evidenced in the many references to his mindless journalism. Any popularity this guy enjoys is thoroughly puzzling to me. Being paired with Roger Ebert to critique films reminds me of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy, only Roeper comes off more like Mortimer Snerd. In defense of Mortimer, however, at least he was good for an occasional laugh.
