That's Weird, Grandma Recommended The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Mondays. Continues through Aug. 29 2011

The Barrel of Monkeys folks get their material by going into schools and pulling stories out of little kids. Then they take the stories and stage them with lots of outlandish business, big gestures, bounciness, and wigs. What can I say? It's fun. The stories themselves often possess an odd, Gilgamesh-like diction ("One day I was with my boyfriend. And the boy was a nice boyfriend.") as if learning to write were a matter of each person having to start over at the beginning of time. A few offer whole other dimensions ("Bowser swallows super baby and the vampire and the Alien"). BOM have the good sense not to polish the kid out of the story, and their onstage goofiness is exceedingly precise. —Tony Adler

Price: $10, $5 for children under 12
