The 24th Day

A callow pickup artist (James Marsden) goes home with a pretty but dim young conquest (Scott Speedman) who takes him prisoner; he tries to charm his way out of the mess, and the balance of power shifts back and forth as secrets are revealed. Writer-director Tony Piccirillo adapted his own play, and despite the staginess of the premise this feature works pretty well. Marsden (X-Men) and Speedman (of the sitcom Felicity) are perfectly cast, relishing every dramatic beat, and the movie's HIV politics should be good for some heated discussion once the lights go up. 92 min.
