The 7-Shot Symphony New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: July 15-23 2011

With no props or scenery and just a few costume pieces hung along the back of the stage, the cagey, exuberant members of Minneapolis's Live Action Set morph into anything and everything—trees, saloon doors, tumbleweeds, flying bullets, even sweeping desert landscapes—and shift scale and perspective with all the nimbleness of a Pixar animation. Now director Ryan Underbakke needs to streamline the show, an unwieldy mash-up of Japanese, Norse, Greek, African, Middle Eastern, and Old West mythology. And the troupe could stand to push their acting beyond incessant mugging and shouting. As it is, their interchangeable, one-dimensional yokels make more noise than sense. —Justin Hayford
