The Acting Tank Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays. Continues through May 20 2011

A cast of ten build an entirely improvised show around Repetition, an exercise created by legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner, in which students stand face to face and repeat their observations of each other--back and forth, ad infinitum--to keep themselves "present" in the moment. Unlike most improv shows, this one has no overall objective, theme, situation, or location. While Repetition can be helpful as a tool for developing emotional context in rehearsal, it doesn't make for an enthralling night of theater on its own. Perhaps the only lesson to be learned from this show is that something aspiring actors pay hundreds of dollars to do in schools, behind closed doors, is hardly worth the price of admission to watch. --Josh Sumner
