The Answers Is Always C Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays. Continues through Sept. 6 2013

After a slow start, The Answer . . . gains momentum and becomes more uniformly awful with every sketch. Created by a group of Second City alums, the show is apparently a choose-your-own-adventure comedy wherein viewers dictate the outcome, though the process remains hazy throughout. The audience is held hostage by obnoxious characters (standouts are a shrieking superhero in spandex and an everyman boiling with unfunny wrath) who lurch around illogically, employ untraceable amateur accents, and giggle at their own wit. The cast give every impression they have not discussed the project among themselves—in fact, they may not ever have met—and this leaves them flailing for laughs like fish on a very dry shore. —Marya Hornbacher
