The Armor Class, A Light Sleeper, ONONO, Orphans

When: Wed., June 10, 9 p.m. 2009

THE ARMOR CLASS: Ambiente. Electronique. Experimente. A LIGHT SLEEPER: Foregoing the drastic dynamics and calculated bombast of previous efforts (Re:Rec, Bargos Steeler, Creign), a Light Sleeper opts instead to focus more on the interplay between moods, textures and tones. Working with the comparatively limited palette of crisp guitar lines, delicate vocal harmonies, and brushed drum patterns, this Chicago-based duo weaves together layer upon layer of gently finger-picked themes and hushed vocal phrasings to create minimalist yet surprisingly expansive soundscapes, where ominous crescendos placidly give way to lilting, waltz-like cadences. ONONO: former members of Danger Adventure. They play dramatic pop/prog/rock-type music. Onono is heavy on keyboards and melodic bass rhythms with lyrical vocal harmonies. The group's musical influences are numerous and varied. ORPHANS: Glenview postrock.
