The Bailout Show

When: Saturdays. Continues through Feb. 14 2009

What if a sketch comedy troupe accepted a government bailout? Think Tank's premise begets some of the most bizarre, prop-heavy, high-concept comedy around. The show fails, but fails so spectacularly that you're compelled to keep watching--even as two members of the four-man cast crab walk toward you, 95 percent naked. Fanciful, convulsive, and imaginative in its use of pop music, the performance is like comedy on narcotics, and ultimately OD's. Bits are sometimes wordy and hard to follow, characters are often undefined, the delivery can be overblown. What survives by the finale--which includes a nod to Blue Man Group--is the sense that you've just seen a company with a singular voice and enormous potential. --Ryan Hubbard
