The Best of Rookie TV

Hip-hop has found its video equivalent in these short sketches, with their crazy rhythms and humor, the aggression reduced to just a whiff of attitude. A “bum” with a “top-of-the-line” shopping cart has a parking lot encounter with a good-humored driver; “Tiger Woulds” explains that he doesn't have an anger problem, but is just “real.” Rookie indulges a barely comprehensible woman in a “rate Bush” segment who gives the president a score of ten while calling him an “idiot.” Not everything is coherent or even competent—why is an extended interview seen in unengaged long shot?—but energy, rhythm, and generosity manage to put it all over. 60 min.
