The Blue Bird

The second of three Hollywood versions of the Maurice Maeterlinck fantasy play (preceded by Maurice Tourneur's in 1918 and followed by George Cukor's in 1976). Shirley Temple was directed by Walter Lang in this 1940 version, which is said to have more production values than charm. With Spring Byington, Nigel Bruce, and Gale Sondergaard.
