The Book of Liz Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Recommended Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Aug. 13 2011

Written by Amy and David Sedaris and revived here by Chemically Imbalanced Comedy, which had a hit with it in 2007, this wacky gem combines a deft comic touch with the improvisational edge of an all-night brainstorm. Feeling unappreciated, Sister Elizabeth Donderstock takes an unauthorized vacation from her Amish-like, simple-living community of Squeamish brethren, finding employment at a Pilgrim-themed restaurant--a job for which she's already got the uniform. Her sanctimonious tormentor, Brother Brightbee (Brian Kash), meanwhile, scrambles to re-create her famous cheeseball recipe. The Sedaris siblings' off-kilter script unleashes its weirdness at a blazing pace, but Angie McMahon's superb cast parlays the inanity into tight, hilarious scenes and endearingly eccentric characters. Sarah Rose Graber plays the unlikely heroine with pinched, quirky charm. --Keith Griffith
