The Boxer and Death

Peter Solan's recently rediscovered Czech feature of 1962 focuses on a boxer (Stefan Kvietik) who is accorded special privileges as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp because the camp's commandant (Manfred Krug) was also a boxer before the war and wants to have a worthy opponent. According to many reports, a striking and well-crafted drama with heavy ironic and existential overtones.
