A man and a woman living in London meet and fall in love while touring the continent, but she's been betrothed in India to a loutish family friend. Following her back to India, the boyfriend is advised to elope by the girl's mother and his own father; instead he embarks on a campaign to win her father's approval—he even makes a speech in praise of parental wisdom.
