When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Nov. 20 2010

Anthony Neilson's hypersexual, calculatedly scandalous 1997 play is overwritten, internally illogical yet doggedly fascinating. The tale of a pornographic filmmaker trying to advance her agenda by seducing a state censor into exploring his shameful sexual fetish, its politics are preposterous--the filmmaker believes humankind will achieve universal liberation once sex is entirely divorced from reproduction--yet its bratty insistence on pushing some of our culture's hottest psychological buttons creates disturbing intrigue. Director Mike Rice amplifies the script's skeeviness exponentially by staging the 75-minute one-act in the boggy unfinished basement of an Uptown apartment building where the occasional stream of water bursts through the ceiling as though the building were pissing on the proceedings. It's a singular theatrical experience. --Justin Hayford
