The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Wednesdays, Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Dec. 23 2011

"Pish-posh" is Jonathan Toomey's version of "bah-humbug." The Christmas-hating widower is known around the village for an ornery disposition—but also for his remarkable woodcarving skills. Enter Sarah McDowell, a bighearted widow from the city who needs new nativity figures. Voila! A Christmas miracle. Provision Theater's Tim Gregory directs his own, agreeable musical based on a children's book by Susan Wojciechowski. Michael Mahler's folk-ballad score keeps Wojciechowski's story of redemption humming along, and Gregory's large cast of kids is adorable enough to help us overlook the sometimes schlocky material. —Dan Jakes
