The Circus

Soviet icon Lyubov Orlova plays an American entertainer forced into exile upon the discovery that she gave birth to a black baby. She lands in Moscow as a member of a traveling circus and falls in love with a Soviet gymnast, only to discover the manager of the circus is using her black child as leverage to keep her from leaving the show. Grigori Aleksandrov directed this 1936 feature. In Russian with subtitles. 94 min.
