The City of Photographers

During the 80s a group of brave Chileans formed the Association of Independent Photographers to document the rising waves of protest against dictator Augusto Pinochet. Watching each other's backs, they shot and collected images of thousands of civilians who were brutalized by the regime, and the organization enabled them to license their work to news agencies abroad. This elegiac 2006 documentary by Sebastian Moreno, whose father belonged to the group, reveals the photojournalists to be as eloquent verbally as they were visually. In Spanish with subtitles. 80 min.
