The Comedian Harmonists: Six Life Stories

Eberhard Fechner's 192-minute documentary (1976) on a famous German singing troupe of the 1930s that was forced to disband by the Nazis because three members were Jewish. Fechner, whose Der Prozess chronicled the trial of 15 former concentration-camp guards, specializes in documentary investigations of 20th-century German history; this is one of nearly a score of films he made from the 60s through the mid-80s, all originally shown on West German TV. In German with subtitles.
