The Comedy of Errors Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Oct. 22 2011

Live music, whimsical staging, and lots of eye candy spark Shakespeare's comedy of long-lost twins and mistaken identities. Director Christopher Marino presents the farce in a cabaret-punk style, cleverly using a traveling sideshow motif to create an exciting, bizarre atmosphere. His efforts keep the show visual through the talky bits and highlight the play's darker elements. At times the silliness borders on indulgence, and some relationship dynamics are overshadowed by the focus on frantic fun. But overall, Marino's staging helps goose up one of the Bard's least toothsome plots. The ensemble is adept and musical with the poetry, and Nicole Keating is especially convincing as Luciana, a young woman struggling to deny her feelings for her sister's (supposed) husband. --Dan Jakes
