The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] Recommended Free New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Sundays. Continues through Aug. 30 2015

"We don't have to do them justice, we just have to do them," urges one player in this manic three-act comedy for three male players, which in condensing all Shakespeare's plays into 90 minutes considerably stretches the notion of "doing them"—most are collapsed into one-liners, if that. Originally written by the Reduced Shakespeare Company in 1991, the script delights with famous lines amusingly mangled and interpretations immature in the extreme. Under Ron Popp's direction for Theater-Hikes, this berserk outdoor staging (be prepared to walk) felt more like Monty Python-skewed improv than campy send-up. If you're lucky you may encounter some tiny extra players; at the show I attended, some half-dozen kids, oblivious to the racy language, were an inexhaustible joy, kidding the cast and studiously correcting puns. —Jena Cutie
