The Cousins Grimm The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Aug. 23 2009

This new musical by Ted Sod, Dan Martin, and Michael Biello concerns a gay man and lesbian who team up to rewrite the Grimm stories with a same-sex slant, only to find their own dysfunctional lives merging with the tales they're retelling. The material gets bogged down in cumbersome overplotting and forced whimsy, but clever visual design and buoyant performances by a talented cast make Bailiwick Repertory's world premiere production worth sitting through. Director-choreographer Scott Ferguson brings a light touch to the material, and Frank Mares's video animation, Rebecca Hamlin's set, and Lisa Morill's extravagant costumes give the production a colorful storybook quality. Runs in rep with Two Spoons. --Albert Williams
