The Dark Master Chronicles The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through June 21 2009

With his mobile face, easy way with accents, and spot-on body language, Glenn Fancher is a good performer. Under Socrates Jackson's direction, he nails a fantasy scene in which he mimes a king winning his lady love and, in another bit, deftly sketches four slackers in a car as three of them comfort the heartbroken fourth. But as a writer--well, he could use an editor. His repetition of lines is monotonous, not incantatory. And the 70-minute solo show's one-note concept--being unlucky in love--is steeped in cliche, self-pity, and belligerence. There's no doubt the likable Fancher can be entertaining, but not on this subject. --Laura Molzahn
