The Factory That Makes Devils The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through June 9 2012

Rory Leahy's ten vignettes offer tongue-in-cheek takes on the horror genre in film and TV. You know—zombies, vampires, demons, monsters in the closet, pagan human sacrifice, all that fun stuff. Leahy obviously knows the terrain. One sketch, a Twilight Zone-style satire of mass hysteria, is set in "Matheson, Wisconsin"—a nod to iconic sci-fi writer Richard Matheson. But amateurish acting undermines the material's potential. The key to horror is complete commitment to the story, no matter how ridiculous it is. The cast of this American Demigods production seem embarrassed by the hokey dialogue and far-fetched plots. The show, consequently, is only intermittently funny and never scary. —Albert Williams
