The Famous Brothers . . . A Month of Sundays

Yes, there's a cringe factor. It kicks in on "An Inbred Mountain Holiday," the second song after intermission. So if you're sensitive to hillbilly slander you might want to take an extra five minutes in the lobby. Otherwise this Appalachia-themed revue is too funny, smart, sweet voiced, and overall amiable to boycott. The conceit is a concert by the Famous Brothers, a quarrelsome trio from the mythical coal-mining town of Monkeycrevice, West Virginia. Darren Stephens, Will Clinger, and Rick Vamos wear their personas so lightly there's never a whiff of condescension, even when Clinger's doing his ridiculous clog dance. What's more, the songs come off as cunning satire rather than countrified pastiche. The patter fails at times, but those songs are anthracite solid. Through 11/27: Sun 7:30 PM. Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N. Broadway, 773-472-3492. $20.
