The Fever Chart Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Oct. 30 2011

Playwright Naomi Wallace has a gift for refining intricate ideas into simple, poignant images. Her brand of lyrical expression adds emotional impact to linear narratives--but it can become distracting when the material is more abstract. And The Fever Chart deals in abstractions. Its wide focus (ranging from Iraq and Afghanistan to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict), montage structure, and use of ghosts showcase Wallace's worst habits. Disregarding plot and going off on tangents, she spends too much time in the ether when the drama is on the ground. Steven Fedoruk and Sarah Moeller's Eclipse Theatre staging pulls some action out of the disjointed script, which is better read than performed. --Dan Jakes
