The First Lad | Chicago Reader

The First Lad

This early feature (1959) by Sergei Paradjanov (The Color of Pomegranates) was made under the influence of Alexander Dovzhenko and before Paradjanov's definitive mid-60s break with Soviet realism, though reportedly it shows more than a few traces of his later folklore-inflected, musical-inspired stagings. In Russian with subtitles. 86 min.
