Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson stars as a preening quarterback; his Boston Rebels are on track to win the playoffs, but he's nearly derailed when an eight-year-old daughter he didn?t know existed (irritating moppet Madison Pettis) arrives for a monthlong visit. Almost every note in this insipid Disney comedy is strident or false, from the child's prodigious talent for deception to the jock?s chaperoning of her and her classmates at a Corolle doll boutique. The movie?s spoof of egotistical athletes needs more bite; only Roselyn Sanchez emerges from this unscathed, as a spirited ballet instructor unfazed by all the glitz. Andy Fickman (She's the Man) directed; with Kyra Sedgwick. PG, 100 min.
