Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson stars as a preening quarterback; his Boston Rebels are on track to win the playoffs, but he's nearly derailed when an eight-year-old daughter he didn't know existed (irritating moppet Madison Pettis) arrives for a monthlong visit. Almost every note in this insipid comedy is strident or false, from the child's prodigious talent for deception to the jock's chaperoning her and her classmates at a Corolle doll boutique. The movie's spoof of egotistical athletes needs more bite; only Roselyn Sanchez emerges from this unscathed, as a spirited ballet instructor unfazed by all the glitz. Andy Fickman (She's the Man) directed; with Kyra Sedgwick. PG, 100 min.
