The Gift Free The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Mondays-Sundays. Continues through Dec. 31 2020

About Face Theatre offers a free radio play, written and directed by former artistic director Eric Rosen and based on his 1996 play, which was the company's inaugural production. Inspired by O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi," Rosen's play follows a gay couple and a lesbian pair on a double date that reveals unexpected secrets and stories from their pasts. Reader critic Gabrielle S. Kaplan wrote of the original production, "Rosen's very real characters talk directly to the audience, reader's-theater style, then swiftly engage in the action of this tight play. What makes the piece so provocative is that, though the characters come from a variety of backgrounds, including Judaism, Christianity, and even paganism, the truths they discover about the nature of love are universal."
