The Gingerbread House Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through March 3 2012

Stacey and Brian would be upwardly mobile go-getters if it weren't for their two time-, money-, and soul-sucking kids. So with the assistance of Mephistophelian child broker Marco, they sell them to a rich couple in Albania and start living the life of conspicuous consumption they've always craved. It doesn't end well. Though this Red Tape Theatre production of Mark Schultz's morality tale is thoughtfully directed, cunningly designed, and persuasively acted, it still rings consistently false. Schultz lurches from dystopian black comedy to sci-fi thriller to psychological realism in a simultaneously heavy-handed and muddled attempt to make obvious points about the dangers of pursuing happiness at any cost. —Justin Hayford
