The Girls of San Frediano

Valerio Zurlini's 1954 debut feature is a charming comedy about a young mechanic (Antonio Cifariello) whose inability to settle on one woman creates absurd complications. The vain lothario—who calls himself Bob, after Robert Taylor—juggles several girlfriends while fending off old flames and wooing nearly every attractive woman he encounters, often on his way to a date. This is Zurlini's most lighthearted film (though that's not saying much), and his talent with visual compositions is already much in evidence. 114 min.
