The Goodbye Girl | Chicago Reader

The Goodbye Girl

Standard Neil Simon stuff, full of cute grotesques, snappy one-liners, and cheap plays at pathos. Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason are the romantic leads, a long way from Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, but what can you do? Herbert Ross directed—apparently with some help from his cinematographer, since, unlike The Turning Point, most of the action is in frame (1977).
