The Great Waltz

French exile Julien Duvivier directed this soporific Hollywood biography of Johann Strauss, notorious for the sequence in which Strauss (Fernand Gravet) composes The Blue Danube on a carriage ride through the woods, picking his notes from the sounds of birds chirping in the trees. With Luise Rainer and the European opera star Miliza Korjus; Lionel Atwill, Hugh Herbert, and Herman Bing provide the Viennese ambience (1938).
