The Hollywood Revue of 1929

MGM's entry in the cycle of all-star studio revues that came with the advent of sound; it was by far the most popular, though the waning of some of the celebrities featured makes it seem a little creaky today. Jack Benny is the host; appearing in songs and/or sketches (including the debut of “Singin' in the Rain”) are Marion Davies, Buster Keaton, Norma Shearer, John Gilbert, Laurel and Hardy, Marie Dressler, Bessie Love, Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford, William Haines, Conrad Nagel, Cliff Edwards, and Anita Page. Charles Reisner directed. 130 min.
