The best of the Len Deighton spy stories on film, this 1965 Sidney J. Furie effort stars Michael Caine as the cockney crook-turned-spy Harry Palmer, involved in a bizarre series of goings-on that includes the kidnapping of Western scientists by forces behind the iron curtain. Furie makes the most of the plot and keeps his tendency to ramble (Lady Sings the Blues, Hit!) under control. Great fun. 109 min.
