The Karaoke Artist The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Sat., June 25, Sat., July 2, Fri., July 8 and Sat., July 16 2011

There's a good reason why karaoke is performed in bars. Without heavy drinking and dim lighting, amateur renditions of pop songs are usually unbearable. Still, most of the characters in Gino Micelli's play about a deadbeat entering a national karaoke competition are supposedly at the top of their game. So why can’t any of them carry a tune? The lack of musicality does little to quell the cast, who gleefully jump from one hit to the next. Aaron Lucas's production is a mangled mix of bad vocals, bad jokes about bad vocals, and scene changes that are often longer than the scenes. --Dan Jakes
