Jackie Alexander's play is a mixed bag. Alexander writes believable dialogue and tells a compelling story about a contemporary African-American family in turmoil, and the mysterious stranger who shows up to set things right. But he too often brings everything to a dead stop to make room for an uplifting speech. Similarly, the pace of Kemati Porter's production ranges from spellbinding to so slow you can see every twist coming, and the performances range from flat-footed to riveting. Keith Surney and Marc Rodgers contribute star turns as a troubled young man and the heartless drug dealer who wants to keep him that way. —Jack Helbig
