The Letter

Two traveling entertainers, a musician and a boxer, become friends while staying in a small Latin American town; troubles with the local authorities—the representatives of a distant dictatorial goverment—turn them into political allies. Though actually shot in Portugal, Peter Lilienthal's film captures a powerful atmosphere of South American beauty and repressiveness, though the didactic drift of the allegorical material ultimately fritters it away (1984).
