The Living Canvas: Rain Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Aug. 20 2011

Fourteen naked performers--most of them young and hot--writhe around onstage, their bodies illuminated by digital images that take on a groovy 3-D character as they do their thing. Can't miss, right? Right . . . for the first few minutes. But Bill Daniel's script takes lazy aim at profundity with a series of monologues about a vaguely imagined world without rain, and Gaby Labotka's choreography is frequently murky. Their half-assed execution makes for an annoying distraction from sometimes arresting images and undermines the cast's winning courage and earnestness. Presented as part of National Pastime Theater's Naked July festival, Rain includes a post-show invitation to strip and boogie with the performers. --Dan Weissmann

Price: $20, $75 for Naked July festival pass
