The new upstairs cabaret at the Victory Gardens Biograph provides an intimate if sterile environment for this charming weekly performance of "parlor magic." There's no Vegas-style razzmatazz here--both David Parr and P.T. Murphy (guest magicians will also pitch in) have rather donnish personas. But they're enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of magic Chicago style (they include shout-outs to Matt Schulien), and they perform astounding feats of prestidigitation. The first half of the show includes card tricks and disquisitions on magic lore while the second features a chilling update of the Victorian seance's "spirit cabinet." Low on hokum and high on thoughtfulness, this is an evening that shows magic to its best advantage, up close and personal. --Kerry Reid a Through 7/10: Tue 8 PM, Victory Gardens Theater at the Biograph, second floor, 2433 N. Lincoln, 773-871-3000, $15-$20.
