The Man in the White Suit

85 minutes 2012

The Ealing comedies didn't come much better than this 1951 feature, which stars Alec Guinness as an amateur inventor who creates a fabric that will never wear out. The director, American-born Alexander Mackendrick, was one of the few who worked for Ealing who put his personal stamp on every project: his characters are warmly drawn without condescension, and his social commentary has real bite. With Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker, and Ernest Thesiger.
