To the editors:

Your September 4 Hot Type editorial on WNUA gently circled around the mark. Let me be more direct. The emergence of WNUA (95.5 FM) is a terrifying sign that the marshmallowization of the American psyche is under way. This sort of "light" jazz and classical music cannot be seriously compared with the great jazz and classical pieces. As background music, sure . . . but when the New Age music movement with its lulling repetitiveness and weird sounds for the sake of being weird begins to demand authenticity, it's time to run. The road to decay begins with gentle lappings . . .
