The Matchmaker

A teenage boy comes of age in the summer of 1968 as assistant to a life-affirming Holocaust survivor and matchmaker. This Israeli drama is the sort of cloying but harmless pabulum that the country seems to produce on a monthly basis—it's the movie equivalent of Reader's Digest, complete with truisms about being good to your friends and how nice love is. Avi Nesher (The Secrets) directed his own script. In Hebrew with subtitles.
