The Matrix Revolutions

An epochal event in action cinema and eyewear design, the “Matrix” trilogy concludes with its nattily clad futuristic rebels (Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss) plotting to free humanity from evil robots that patrol the earth in metallic octopi. I walked out on The Matrix (1999) bored stiff, but after watching all three movies end to end I'm more charitably disposed toward their hard-charging but harmless mix of two-bit space opera, middle-school metaphysics, and digital derring-do. Shot at the same time as The Matrix Reloaded, this last installment is the shortest of the bunch at 129 minutes, but I still succumbed to special-effects hypnosis in the last hour. Written and directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski; with Hugo Weaving, Jada Pinkett Smith, Monica Bellucci, Mary Alice, Harold Perrineau, and Harry J. Lennix. R.
