Jason Statham takes over for Charles Bronson in this listless remake of the 1972 action flick. The hero is one of those cool, existential hit men who've been strolling across movie screens at least since Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samourai (1967), and while that pop mythology was still relatively fresh back in Bronson's day, it's so played out at this point that not even the enjoyably no-nonsense Statham can pump any life into it. The plot has him icing his old mentor (Donald Sutherland) on orders from their murder-for-hire organization, then reluctantly schooling the dead man's unsuspecting son (Ben Foster) in the mechanics of killing. Simon West (Con Air) directed; with Tony Goldwyn and Mini Anden.
